Inside IPP’s Sustainability Strategy: How We Build Impact Through Circularity

17 July 2025

IPP’s approach to sustainability is more than a set of goals. It is a structured, group-aligned strategy built on data, action and collaboration. As part of Faber Group, we are working to become Europe’s most sustainable pallet pooling partner, and the digital leader in load carrier pooling and logistics optimization.

The Sustainability Progress Report 2024 outlines how IPP contributes to this ambition through a circular business model that replaces single-use solutions with returnable wooden and plastic pallets in all sizes, boxes, crates and trays. These load carriers are critical to building a circular economy across the supply chain. They are reused, repaired, and recovered through our depot, reducing the demand for new materials and enhancing supply chain efficiency.

What’s driving our strategy

At the core is the Peak and Plateau. Achieving the highest EcoVadis rating Platinum is not our end goal, but our starting point, our Plateau. The Peak Programme focuses on reducing our environmental footprint and improving the performance of our pallet pool system. It includes seven impact areas, from reducing CO₂e emissions to extending the lifespan of our wooden pallets and improving pallet recovery services. It is supported by continuous improvement in pallet management, certified sourcing and digital transformation.

This strategy enables IPP to support supply chains that are more circular, more traceable and more efficient. It also helps customers respond to EU packaging legislation, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Our circular pooling system, helps avoid emissions, reduce waste and support compliance with transport packaging reuse targets.

A new chapter in procurement

One of the key milestones in 2024 was the launch of GREEN30+, a procurement programme that brings sustainability into every decision we make around sourcing. Through this initiative, we are increasing the share of certified wood used in our wood pallet pool. Our goal is to reach 100% FSC or PEFC certified input by 2030. It also deepens collaboration with suppliers and promotes sustainable pallet solutions across our reverse logistics network.

Technology meets traceability

Smart logistics is essential to our strategy. Through Connected Load Carrier technology and the support of Faber LABS, we are rolling out smart pallets with real-time location tracking and data-driven control. These innovations, being introduced to our pallet pool, help reduce pallet loss, streamline pallet collection services, and increase supply chain efficiency.

From words to measurable results

In 2024, IPP contributed to more than 40,000 tonnes of CO₂e savings for our customers. This impact is expected to grow through continued network optimisation, heat-treated pallet reuse and smarter pallet management. We are scaling efforts across the business to promote pallet reuse, invest in recovery, and reduce the need for new wooden pallet boxes.

What’s next

Our strategy does not stop at carbon savings. It includes how we support people, strengthen partnerships and build logistics systems that deliver long-term value. Whether you work in operations, sustainability or commercial teams, every department plays a role in making our strategy real and making supply chains smarter and more sustainable.
