A key player in the fruit & vegetable sector of Hauts-de-France

For over 30 years, SCA Le Marché de Phalempin has played a central role in structuring and promoting the fruit and vegetable sectors of Hauts-de-France. Founded in 1994, the cooperative was created to bring together two historic production areas, the Weppes and Pévèle plains, before expanding its scope in 2018 through the merger with Sipenord.

Today, Le Marché de Phalempin brings together 240 member producers, including 30 certified organic, and sells nearly 50,000 tonnes of local fruits and vegetables each year: endives, onions, cauliflower, strawberries, and many other emblematic products of the region.

One objective guides the entire cooperative: to sustainably defend producers’ income while meeting the growing demands of markets and customers in terms of quality, traceability, and logistical performance.

Logistics: a strategic lever for performance

In an agri-food sector facing strong constraints — rising transport costs, raw material volatility, and increasing customer requirements — logistics is a key factor for competitiveness.

For Le Marché de Phalempin, the challenges are multiple:

  • Ensuring operational excellence

  • Maintaining smooth and reliable flows

  • Staying agile in response to seasonality and changing packaging formats, especially with the increase in shipments on intermediate pallets

Digitalization of processes plays a central role. Order management, precise tracking of movements, and reduced processing times allow teams to manage flows efficiently and calmly while securing daily operations.

Choosing the IPP circular model

It is in this context that Le Marché de Phalempin, as early as 2007, chose the circular pallet rental model offered by IPP Pooling: Discover our story. Discover our story.

This choice was driven by concrete and sustainable benefits:

  • Cost optimization, thanks to no initial investment

  • Total flexibility, adapted to production volumes and seasonality

  • Simplified management, with pallet tracking, collection, and reuse handled by IPP

  • Waste reduction and a lower carbon footprint, fully aligned with the cooperative’s environmental commitments

This model allows Le Marché de Phalempin to secure its logistics flows while supporting the increasing environmental requirements of the agri-food sector.
The pallet thus becomes more than a simple logistical tool: it is a true instrument for economic performance and sustainability.
