Pallets have long been established as one of the most optimal means of transporting goods around the world.

At IPP, we are pallet pooling specialists, and our mission as a pallet pool company is to discover innovative methods for sharing and collaboration, eliminating waste and empty miles, reducing costs and complexity, and accelerating every aspect of the supply chain journey.

With expertise in pallets and operating an optimised pallet pool, we want to dive into how the pallet pooling process works at IPP. Read on to learn more about pallet pooling, including what it is, the process and how to choose the correct pooling partner for your business.

What is pallet pooling?

Pallet pooling is a share and reuse model built on the principles of the circular economy. Instead of buying or exchanging pallets, businesses rent them from a pooling provider and outsource the entire pallet management process.

At IPP, we call it ‘Pallet as a Service.’

Our pooling network connects manufacturers, distributors, retailers, transporters and logistics service providers. Within this network, pallets are shared, recovered, repaired, and reused. Circulating continuously through the supply chain.

Why use a pallet pooler?

Pallet ownership and management can often be a pain point and a huge investment for companies. They can become a distraction and eat into time and resources. This is where a pallet pooler can help and being part of a pallet pool has many advantages:

·       Flexibility and availability

·       Lower impact on the environment

·       Cost savings for purchasing, repair and storage

·       Simple, smooth automation of the supply chain

How the pallet pooling process works at IPP

When you join the IPP Pooling network, we start by delivering a fleet of high-quality reusable pallets to your site. These pallets move seamlessly through your supply chain: you load them with goods and send them on their journey to your customers or retailers. Once the load is delivered, the pallets don’t languish in your warehouse. They’re collected from the drop-off point and returned to our service centres, where we inspect, repair where needed, and prep them for reuse.

We are also committed to reducing empty running and working closely with our logistics partners and customers to remove empty miles from their transport operations. This closed-loop model supports effective supply-chain flow.

Because we operate on the principles of circular economy, each pallet stays in circulation for as long as possible, minimising waste and resource consumption. You benefit from streamlined logistics and predictable pallet availability.

In addition to this we have a simple and easy-to-use customer portal. This portal allows our valued customers to easily place orders. It is also a great place to share data and information as well as view invoices and any other information related to their account.

How to choose a pallet pooling partner

When choosing a pallet-pooling partner, begin by aligning their offering with your operational needs. Look at the specific pallet sizes, types and load capacity you regularly require.

In addition to operational fit, assess the service, transparency and sustainability credentials of the pooling partner. They must have a proven track record of reliability. A genuinely sustainable pallet-pooling provider will not only reduce your own waste and cost burden but actively support your environmental and supply chain resilience goals.
